Recently I had the opportunity to take part in a product evaluation for the photo printing service sall-digital. In order to test the quality of their Professional Line Photobook’s, I put together a sample of all of my best images and sent them off to be printed. The final product I was given was phenomenal beyond expectations.
I have never had such a wonderful experience with a printing service before. Most online print labs I’ve used in the past have a very clunky image uploading interface that is very hard to use. Sall-digital on the other hand allows users to download a feature packed desktop application that allows you to configure your prints without having to worry about accidental formatting issues. The application is straight forward and easy to use, and overall quite pleasant.
As for the product itself, the print quality is honestly much higher than I expected. The cover I was given is made out of a thick acrylic that is very satisfying to look at. It was honestly much thicker than I thought it was going to be. It also gives the impression that the image is suspended in a solid block of glass. The prints on the inside were no less impressive. I was particularly impressed with the glossy paper they used, in fact it’s a lot better than what I’ve been using at home. My only complaint is that the first and last photos were glued directly to the front and back covers respectively. Perhaps in the future they could add a plain blank page as padding so that my photos are not glued directly to the covers. Apart from that, I had a really enjoyable experience. It makes me want to order more books from them. I can easily say that if I want to print another photobook I will use https://www.saal-digital.com/.
